What is a hematology second opinion?
A second opinion is a review of your existing diagnosis and proposed treatment plan by a hematologist who was not involved in your care. Blood-disorder diagnoses often depend on several tests read together (blood counts, peripheral smear, bone marrow, flow cytometry, genetic tests), and more than one accepted treatment approach may exist. The purpose is to help you understand your condition and options and discuss them with your treating physician. It does not replace your current doctor.
Who is it for?
Patients anywhere in Turkey and patients living abroad, for example in Germany or elsewhere in Europe, who would like a hematologist to review their diagnosis or treatment options online.
When can a second opinion help?
- Benign and chronic conditions: unexplained or persistent anemia; ITP and low platelets; bleeding or clotting disorders and thrombophilia; thalassemia; myeloproliferative neoplasms (polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, myelofibrosis)
- Blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
- Stem cell (bone marrow) transplant decisions: whether, when and which type
Useful documents to have ready
Discharge summaries or physician letters; blood test results (including earlier ones if possible); peripheral smear, bone marrow and pathology reports; flow cytometry, cytogenetics/FISH and NGS results; imaging reports; a list of current medications and previous treatments. Missing documents are not a reason not to get in touch.
How to get in touch
Send a short WhatsApp message to +90 553 533 88 53 with your diagnosis and question. Consultations can also be held as a video call; details are provided via WhatsApp.
Limits of online review
An online review does not replace a physical examination and is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call your local emergency number (112 in Turkey and across the EU). Treatment decisions should be made together with your treating physician.
